This is a recipe for a traditional Xhosa meal called isigezenga (Xhosa) or dumpling (English). You see Lillian Nowatasa Tumani, mother of Raymond Matinyana, at work in her kitchen in her house in Nelson Mandela Township.

The amount in the recipe are for about 2 people. In the photos you see Lillian cooking a big pot for more people.

Part 1.

recipe for isigezenga
1. Take about 200g flour

2. Mix with half a teaspoon of salt

3. Mix 1 teaspoon sugar

4. Mix half a teaspoon of dried yeast

5. Take cold water
recipe for isigezenga
6. Add hot water to make it lukewarm
recipe for isigezenga
7. You need half a litre of lukewarm water

8. Slowly add water to flour and knead
recipe for isigezenga
9. Knead the dough

10. Ready when it doesn't stick to hands

11. In a dish or pot to rise

12. Cover pot with a cloth to be warm

13. Peel carrots, potatoes, onions, tomatoes

14. Cook 2 pieces of steak or chops, cut into cubes, till half cooked
recipe for isigezenga
15. Strain water from meat; add onion
