Nemato Change a Life - youth empowerment

success in life - for youth, by youth

NEMATO CHANGE A LIFE

year by year 2022

workshop

We started building a workshop, using the sandbag technology. Our members have the skills and are building it.

skills and income

We encourage and help members to get skills which can generate income. Siphelele got trained in coffee making at the Royal St Andrews Hotel and he was so committed that they offered him a job. He made this beautifully layered caffè latte. After training and certification, Manase is now a qualified and registered snake catcher. This beautiful Western Natal Green Snake is harmless.

self-managing team

After our manager resigned, we didn't appoint a new manager, but we changed to a self-managing team: run the organisation by our members. It's the best form of youth empowerment: getting skills in management and leadership and a mindset of taking responsibility.

maths class

We had some great results in our end of term test: The grade 7 learners Avuyile and Loyiso had 71% for the grade 9 level test, and Lungisani had 92% and Axole had 100%! On the left we are solving for x by 'completing the square', on the right 'maths on the street': we are calculating measurements to build our new workshop.

water donations (December)

No water from the tap and the tank was empty at Nemato Change a Life. That's a problem, but many people stepped in to help us out!

success in life

Stepping stones towards success in life: Our volunteer Simlindile received his Public Management Diploma. Our rowing coach Sheldon got his driver's licence.

gold members in Addo (29 June)

Our most active members get gold member status. It comes with rewards like this trip to the Addo Elephant Park. Surrounded by elephants, no escape possible: fascinating and scary!

Youth Day (16 June)

Youth Day, our 16th birthday! Games, a motivational speech, cake and nice food.

learnership graduation (9 June)

Siphamandla graduated after successfully completing his one year Wessa Blue Flag Tourism Learnership at the Royal St Andrews Hotel. Our manager Odwa was the motivational speaker at the graduation event.

herbs garden

With the help of Jo and Home Grown Nursery in Bathurst we are starting our herbs garden.

UNICEF

UNICEF visited us to get to know our organisation. They liked what they saw and invited Odwa and Thando to Gauteng for a course to learn how to use the UNICEF sports based life skills programmes. We are using the programme in our weekly gym on Monday.

new Quantum (14 January)

Our Quantum was hijacked. Our dear supporter Alexander took the initiative to get us back on track with this amazing upgrade!!! Later in the year we got it branded.
